Sedges of Indiana and the Adjacent States - The Non-Carex Species
Sedges of Indiana is a guide to an important family of grass-like plants called sedges. This would be a great resource for native plant enthusiasts seeking to expand their familiarity beyond trees and wildflowers, but it is also a technical book that wetland professionals and others will appreciate. The book covers bulrushes, spike-rushes, cotton-grasses, nut-rushes, flat-sedges and others, but there are too many species in genus Carex to include. For Carex species, see Field Guide to Wisconsin Sedges.
All species that occur in Indiana are included, as well as most species found in adjacent states, even as far away as Minnesota. Of the 70 species documented there, only six (three of which are rare) are not included in this book. Each species is treated in depth with detailed descriptions, habitat information, range maps and photographs. At the front of the book there are illustrations of the ornate seeds of sedges, which are often used to differentiate between similar species. Dichotomous keys are provided for all species and the front of the book serves as an introduction to sedge biology. 271 pages. Hardcover. Shipping fee is included on all books (within the contiguous US).
