Aromatic aster is difficult to start from seed; it's best to buy a few plants as they will spread by rhizomes. It is one of the last Aster species to bloom in the fall. In the first few years after transplanting, the plant will be a nice 2' high by 2' wide clump, completely covered in light purple flowers when blooming. As Aromatic Aster plants mature, they loose this 'clump' appearance and will spread around and between other plants, but will always have many flowers when blooming.
Another Scientific Name in use is Symphyotrichum oblongifolium.
