Companion Plants and Products
Senna hebecarpa (Wild Senna)
We think Wild Senna deserves more recognition as a great choice for garden or restoration projects. Its lovely, bright yellow flowers attract many bees and butterflies. Autumn brings beautiful leaf colors and the formation of long black pods with seeds favored by larger birds like wild turkeys. A horizontal root system provides strength against winds, allowing the plant's stately (4-6') beauty to be appreciated even after the storm.
Uniola latifolia (River Oats)
Also called Chasmanthium latifolium or Northern Sea Oats, River Oats is a very ornamental grass that is easily identifiable from it’s drooping inflorescences and compressed spikelets. The once pale green spikelets turn golden-brown by fall.
Elymus hystrix (Bottlebrush Grass)
Bottlebrush Grass provides texture and interest in shaded areas. It is a staple grass in our Savanna and Woodland Seed mixes.
Elymus villosus (Silky Wild Rye)
A common grass of deciduous woodlands.
