Prairie Moon Nursery welcomes Andy Kranz-McGuire, our newest employee. He started working as full-time Botanist / Native Seed Specialist on March 31,2010. Andy will help with plant identification and is learning the many aspects of seed sales.
Andy received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota in 2007. His interdisciplinary curriculum included botany, ecology, and conservation. During previous jobs and internships he has handled native plant seed for Wild River State Park in Minnesota, conducted vegetation surveys across Minnesota for the U.S. Forest Service, and, most recently, helped to protect and restore the fantastic natural communities of southwestern Wisconsin for Mississippi Valley Conservancy.
Andy also has experience in horticulture. During college he worked at the University’s research nursery. He has worked at two organic farms–a vegetable and herb farm and an organic apple orchard. He and his wife spent five months on a bicycle tour in which they visited dozens of farms practicing sustainable agriculture.
Andy is a resident of Winona, MN, where he enjoys gardening, hiking, reading, and brewing cider.
